The Tribune Company

Common folk may not associate the Chicago Tribune with the Chicago Cubs baseball team but they are owned by the same company - The Tribune Company, that is. The Chicago Tribune is one of the ten major daily newspapers in the whole United States and serves mainly the Chicago, Illinois market. A new deal stock buy out plan valued at $8.2 billion will allow the Chicago Cubs to be sold along with their Wrigley Field home after the 2007 season concludes. The Chicago Tribune is considered a die-hard Republican Party supporter for the higher positions of public office (though it may support some Democrats for the lesser positions of public office.) The Tribune Company itself is currently owner of various other newspapers and TV stations throughout the US.

Chicago Cubs

The fate of the Chicago Cubs baseball team and its long-time park Wrigley Field has already been sealed – Sam Zell (a Chicago-based mogul) has already purchased their owner The Tribune Company (as of December 20, 2007.) But new owner Zell will not be running the team or their home base; rather, Zell has requested that The Tribune Company should sell off both team and park soon to buyers who expressed interest. The problem could be that the Chicago Cubs have not been a winning team in the world of baseball in the past century. The value of the team and Wrigley Field comes more from sentimental memories of a home-grown team that has always raised the hopes of fans only to have these dashed eventually.
