The City of Chicago

Chicago maybe best known for its popular stars like Ophrah Winfrey and Michael Jordan, however there’s more that you need to know about this exciting city. It is a considered the largest city in Midwest and classified as a “global city” since it is famous as a stand alone city of Illinois. It was first incorporated as one of the cities in Illinois in 1837.

Chicago is now considered a major hub for businesses and transportation. It is also fondly tagged as The City That Works and The Windy City.

Chicago in History

Being one of the fastest growing cities in the first century, Chicago’s population rapidly grew to 1 million in the year 1890. By the 19th century, it is already known as 5th largest city in the whole world. In the middle of the 18th century, the city was inhabited by Potawatomis. One of the great highlights in history for this city is the Great Chicago Fire that occurred in 1871. The disaster killed hundreds of residents and destroyed a great deal of infrastructures that time. One of the buildings that withstood the great fire was the Chicago Water Tower which still stands proud up to this time.
