The Apollo Chorus of Chicago came into existence in 1872. It underwent many renovations since then and is now known to be the town's premiere musical ensemble, garnering praise from newspaper critics and patrons alike. Apollo drew raves for its interpretations of celebrated works by Schubert and Liszt, Haydn and Handel, Bach and Mendelssohn, as well as scores of lesser known composers.

Entering his tenth season as Music Director and Conductor of the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, Mr. Stephen Alltop has built a career based on excellence in several disciplines, conducting both orchestral and choral ensembles and performing as a keyboard artist.

Under his direction, the Chorus has performed Bach's b minor Mass, Beethoven's Mass in C, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Brahms' A German Requiem, Bruckner's Te Deum, Durufle's Requiem, Haydn's The Creation, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and Orff's Carmina Burana.

At the Apollo Chorus, dedicated and lovers of music are most welcome. Those who wish to attain the highest level of musicianship and experienced choral singers are welcome to audition for membership.
