Friends of the Chicago River

Since its inception for twenty- five years, Friends of the Chicago River, a dedicated organization has been associated with the Chicago River and its watershed.

Sept 1, 2005 was proclaimed Friends of the Chicago River Day by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. This day marked the onset of the 25th Anniversary through September 30, 2006. Numerous events such as Michigan Avenue Bridge house and Main Stem walking tours, river strategy seminars. The annual Chicago River Student Congress will focus on the children's vision of the Chicago River over the next 25 years. Friends will also hold the grand opening of the Michigan Avenue Bridge House Museum in spring 2006.

Margaret Frisbie, executive director of Friends of the Chicago River comments, “This is a very exciting time for the River and Friends. Over the past 25 years, through education, on- the- ground projects and policy and planning efforts, Friends has worked to make the Chicago River a natural and recreational resource loved and cared for by the people in the region.

People recognize the improvements that have been made in recent years, however there is still much to be done and Friends of the Chicago River will continue to be an advocate for the River.”
