If you like American pro football, then maybe you’d be interested in the Chicago Bears of Chicago, Illinois. The strongest rivals of the Chicago Bears in US football would be the Green Bay Packers since the latter have been able to snare twelve championships in the Professional American Football league while the Chicago Bears were able to get a total of nine. At the same time, the Chicago Bears are renowned in US pro football because 26 of their team mates have made it to Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears have competed in over 170 games played between them to date. Eighty percent ownership of the team belongs to Virginia McCaskey and family whose influence over the Bears is controversial.

Virginia McCaskey

The role of matriarch Virginia McCaskey on the US football team called the Chicago Bears has been always been marked by surprising twists and turns. The Chicago Bears were originally owned by George Halas, but upon his death his daughter Virginia McCaskey inherited the team while her husband Ed McCaskey was able to assume the position of Chairman of the Board. If Virginia McCaskey’s older brother George Halas Jr. (nickname “Mugs”) had lived long enough, ownership of the Chicago Bears would have passed on to him rather than his sister after their father died. The problem was, Mugs died too of a heart attack back in 1979 (four years before their father died.) This is why the McCaskey family now owns the Chicago Bears team.
