The Field Museum opened its doors to the public on September 16, 1893. It was named as the Columbian Museum of Chicago which was later renamed as Field Museum of Natural History (in 1905) to honor the Museum's first major benefactor, Marshall Field.
This famed museum is visited by visitors all over the world. Each year, more than 250,000 school children visit The Field Museum. More than 10,000 teachers take advantage of our resources for professional development and planning. The Museum is a gateway to knowledge and illuminates the present by bringing the past to life with a wealth of subjects to study.
The Museum's learned staff work in four different departments - Anthropology, Botany, Geology, and Zoology. They research and also have responsibility for collections management and collaboration in public programs with the Departments of Education and Exhibits.
You are also invited to avail the membership of the Field Museum. You can learn and explore so much. The museum will prove to be a kaleidoscope for your eyes.
